The City of Independence is happy to announce the first Citizen's Academy. The Citizen Academy will allow residents of Independence the opportunity to learn more about the City departments and operations over a 6 month time frame.
This program will consist of a 3 hour meeting once every month for the next 6 months, include tours and information concerning the operations and locations of all city operations with in-depth looks at equipment and processes.
The times and dates for these meetings are tentatively scheduled for:
June 13, 1:00-4:00 - Waste Water Treatment Plant
July 11, 1:00 - 4:00 - City Hall/Fire Department
August 1, 1:00 - 4:00 - Street Department/Airport
September 5, 1:00 -4:00 - Parks, Recreation, Rivers Edge
October 3, 1:00 - 4:00 - Police Department
November 7, 1:00 - 4:00 - Library
Anyone interested in participating should complete an application expressing interest. Applications are available by clicking on Additional Info. There will be a limit of 10 participants. Selection of participants will be based on a goal to have representation from each of the 5 city wards if possible. Applications must be turned in by May 30, 2018 by 4:30 pm.
