Independence Parks & Recreation Activities Guide

Independence Parks and Recreation is committed to providing a wide variety of recreational opportunities for youth and adults.

Philosophy of Programming

Our youth programs for children under the age of 8 years old are focused on basic fundamentals and sport specific skill development. The sport programs we offer for youth in 3rd-4th grade begins to move towards a more competitive level of play, emphasis remains on the fundamentals of the sport, providing equal playing time, and teaching the value of teamwork and good sportsmanship. Our 5th, 6th, & 7th grade programs have transitioned to competitive play. While we continue to emphasize the fundamentals and equal playing time, some programs will be tailored to exclusive travel which exposes participants to other competitive teams outside of Independence.
MANY of the programs we offer rely on Volunteers...
We are extremely fortunate to have such an overwhleming number of good volunteers year after year. The programs we offer would not be successful without you & we thank you!!!
If you would like to become a volunteer coach or volunteer in other areas with the Independence Parks & Recreation Department, please call 319-334-6711.
