I've been at the Independence Library since July of 2003. My
education includes a B.A. in Elementary Education from the University of
Northern Iowa and an MLS (Master of Library Science) Degree from the
University of Iowa. Most of my library experiences prior to becoming
the director at the Independence Public Library were in elementary
schools. I was a teacher librarian, sometimes known as a media
specialist, for eight years.
I live in Independence with my family...my husband, Mark, and our two
daughters, Rachel and Ava. We enjoy the community of Independence and
the many kind and generous people who live here. The giving spirit of
the people here made it possible to build a new library, which opened in
September of 2008. Over $1.8 million of the $3 million project came
from private donations! We were also grateful for money from the city,
county, and grants.
I am so excited to see more people utilizing the library, and for
longer periods of time. The new facility at 805 1st St East boasts
handicap accessibility, room for people to read and relax, a community
room for library programs and meetings, study rooms, and special areas
for children, teens, and adults. If you haven't been here, please come
give us a try!
